TEHRAN -- President Mohammad Khatami cabled on Saturday separate messages to the Malaysian King Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra and Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, congratulating them, the government and nation on the country's National Day, IRNA reported.

In his message to Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Iranian president expressed hope that the existing friendly ties between the two countries, brought about by efforts the two sides' officials, is a good example of cooperation among Muslim states in the ongoing sensitive international situation.
